Microbial Detection Overview

Every year, there are millions of cases world-wide of pathogenic diseases such as ear infections, dysentery, typhoid fever, gastroenteritis and hepatitis A, which get their start from fecal contamination in food or water. Diseases which have been eradicated in the industrialized world, still result in epidemics in regions with poor sanitation and inadequate water/sewage treatment facilities. Testing for fecal contamination can help prevent the spread of these and other diseases.

Charm provides a variety of rapid pathogen indicator tests for food and water ranging from detecting coliform, E. coli and hydrogen sulfide producing enterobacteriaceae, to coliphage. All are considered indicators of fecal contamination, especially when found in water supplies.

Peel Plate microbial tests utilize a traditional microbial detection platform to detect aerobic bacteria and coliforms/E. coli for use in dairy products, ground meats, other foods, contact surfaces and water.

E*Colite is a single use, self-contained test with selective medium designed to resuscitate and detect chlorine-stressed coliform and E. coli encountered in drinking, bottled and food/beverage waters.

PathoGel is a single use, self-contained test with selective medium designed to detect coliform, E. coli and hydrogen sulfide producing enterobacteriaceae (e.g., salmonella, citrobacter) in food, beverages and waters.

Fast Phage tests provide rapid detection of coliphage, a viral structure that is an indicator of fecal contamination in water.
