Tetracyclines are commonly used broad-spectrum antibiotics that inhibit protein synthesis in bacteria. Tetracyclines are known to provoke allergic reactions in humans, and induce microbial resistance. The most common tetracyclines used on food producing animals include oxytetracycline, tetracycline and chlortetracycline.
